Mitsubishi has published two teaser images of the Outlander PHEV Concept-S which will be introduced next month at the Paris Motor Show.
Two years ago at the Paris Motor Show we saw Mitsubishi's Outlander PHEV and this year at the same event they plan to showcase the Concept-S. It's described as a "special package" for the production model bringing revised exterior and interior styling "that magnifies the Outlander PHEV's unique driving experience."
Details about the hardware setup have not been provided but chances are these will be carried over from the production model so expect a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine working with two electric motors and a 12 kWh lithium-ion battery to provide a combined output of 200 bhp (149 kW) and 249 lb-ft (337 Nm). It should cover the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in 11 seconds before topping out at 106 mph (170 km/h).
The production Outlander PHEV can do 34 miles (55 km) on electric power (Pure) and up to 547 miles (800 km) in hybrid mode (Parallel), providing a fuel consumption of just 1.6 liters / 100 km (143.5 mpg US or 172.3 mpg UK). Besides Pure and Parallel modes, the Outlander PHEV also has a Series mode in which the gasoline engine acts as a generator supplying electricity to the electric motors when the battery pack is almost depleted.
The 2014 Paris Motor Show will begin on October 2 with the first press day.
